Is There More to Self-Care Than Just Bubble Baths?

What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the term self-care? Most people think bubble baths, face-masks, coffee, and wine.

But there is so much more to self-care than this. By definition, self-care are the actions that we take to improve our mental, emotional and physical health. It’s the steps that we take daily to improve our overall health.

Self-care is a multifaceted practice that encompasses so much than bubble baths and wine. Although sometimes nothing beats a relaxing bath!

The different components to self-care include:

  • Emotional – How are you valuing yourself? Do you allow positivity in or do you tend to let negativity control your thoughts? A great way to work on your emotional health is through practicing mindfulness.
  • Physical – Includes a healthy diet, nutrition, exercise, and physical activity. Getting outside in nature and taking a quick walk is a great simple way to practice physical self-care! Yoga is also a great form of physical self-care because it allows you to simultaneously work on your emotional well-being.
  • Intelligence – Stimulate your mind through puzzles, reading and creativity.
  • Social – Our relationships with those in our lives including our spouse, children, family, friends, and co-workers.
  • Safety & Security – This includes things like having health insurance, financial health, implementing a budget.
  • Spiritual – Spirituality varies for each of us. Find what works for you and implement practices daily to strengthen your spirituality.

What are some steps that you can start to implement towards these areas of your health? Which areas do you find easiest to work on and which do you find most challenging?
